Sometimes purchasing a new pair of jeans can appear to be more of a hassle than the eventual payoff. I, myself, have actually at times given up on trying new styles and simply found a style that suits me for that particular season and purchased the same denim in every color available. Hopefully this brief guide will give you a bit more insight into the jeans that will work best for your body type thus saving you time in the fitting room trying on styles that were doomed to begin with.

The Straight Leg-
The most classic of all denim styles, the straight leg is a slightly tapered fit that should rest at the middle of your hip and taper slightly from the knee to the ankle. It will accentuate longer, leaner physiques best and while it may be unforgiving for those with extra pounds, the fit is easy to wear with nearly any other garment.
Our recommendations: Wear straight leg jeans if you are tall and lean to average height and slender. 7 For All Mankind Standard Jean.
The Bootcut Leg-
Originally designed to be worn with cowboy boots, the bootcut leg has become our number one selling fit. These jeans should rest slightly below your waist, and may taper from your waist to your knee. From your knee to your ankle bootcut jeans will widen ever-so-slightly to something commonly known as a flare. This flare can be slight or slightly extreme. They work great for social events as well as on a casual day at the office.
Our recommendations: Wear bootcut jeans if you are average height and slender or if you have hips set relatively wider apart. Earnest Sewn Hutch Jean.
The Relaxed Leg-
Similar to Bootcut jeans Relaxed Leg jeans should sit just below your waist. The seat and thighs should have a loose, relaxed fit and the posterior pockets will likely be deeper and larger on this style of denim.
Our recommendations: Wear relaxed leg jeans if you have a more muscular body type. This will subtly show off your physique without making you look overly bulky. Rock & Republic Floyd Jean.
Low-rise-
Low-rise jeans are going to sit well below your natural waistline, but not so low that you reveal your “plumber’s butt.” They can come in any different leg fit, but are most commonly seen in jeans with a bootcut fit. We suggest wearing a longer shirt so that if something does inadvertently become visible, you have a little extra fabric back there to maintain some modesty.
